When we selected this month’s poem, “Choke,” for publication over a year ago, we appreciated its vivid dramatization of the harm of the unsaid. This week, in the wake of George Floyd’s murder and in view of the protests around the country, we are being shown–again and again–the damage and danger of silence about racism. While “Choke” does not directly engage with that particular history and is more about the unsaid in personal relationships, it is part of the conversation, too.

Out of respect, we are delaying the publication of this broadside until June 15th.

We hope that, in the next two weeks, you help us elevate the voices published in our “Inside Voices: Collaborations Across Incarceration” folio of broadsides.
